When we think of family trips to Florida, we often think about Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, or Sarasota. While those are all beautiful getaway destinations, Key West is a gorgeous, small island located in the Florida Keys. The size of this island makes it less overwhelming and its tropical vibes and historical aspects make it an unforgettable place to visit.

Mallory Square is a must-see if you are in Key West. Each night there is a “Sunset Celebration” because this is where lots of people gather to see the beautiful sunsets the island has to offer. This is the part of the island where something is always happening as there are many popular shops and restaurants in this area as well.
As a little kid, I always loved aquariums and I still do! Getting to witness the beautiful sea life animals is something that should not be taken for granted. At Key West’s Aquarium, they have a shark exhibit where you can actually feed the sharks!
They also have a sea turtle conservation tour and a jellyfish exhibit. It’s definitely an unforgettable experience as the aquarium is interactive and full of beautiful sea creatures.

With technology playing such a big role in our own lives and our kids’ lives, it is important that we take a break from the screen and focus on nature from time to time. Take a boat ride out to Dry Tortugas National Park which is home to a 19th Century Fort and crystal clear water. This is a perfect park to go to for both fun activities and a little bit of history. Enjoy a day out in the Keys water. There are so many different water sports available at Key West that are geared for all ages. You can go parasailing, snorkeling, rent a jet ski, kayaking , sailing, surfing, and more! There is something for all water lovers.
Ernest Hemingway was a respected American Novelist who passed away in 1961. He left behind his house in Key West which has now been transformed into a museum honoring his life.
Hemingway’s house is filled with many cats which is an homage to the six-toed cat that he had as a pet. Seeing a luxurious house from the 1930s in Key West is a very unique experience and makes for a beautiful picture as it is located on garden grounds.
If you’re going to the island of Key West chances are you and your family love the beach! One of the best beaches in Key West is Smather’s Beach. It is filled with palm trees and clear water. Take a beach day to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery at this beach!
The Southernmost Point is the perfect monument for your family picture in Key West. Of course, it is a popular tourist attraction, however, it is definitely worth seeing as it is a staple to a Key West vacation.
The Southernmost Point is a buoy located in Key West since it is famous for being the Southernmost city in the continental U.S. Although this is more of a photo op than an activity, there is plenty to see and do around this area.
Did you know that Key Lime Pie was invested in Key West? It is a popular dessert in Key West that can be found at most restaurants, bakeries, and cafes. Even if you have had it before, there is nothing like tasting it right from the island itself. Blue Heaven is a great place to try some!
