I’m sure you have heard the news about Disney’s new FastPass system coming this fall to Walt Disney World resort and Disneyland Resort.
I know as a busy mom, the last thing you want to worry about before your vacation is how confusing a FastPass system can be. I know how overwhelming this change is, so I thought I would summarize the basics here:
Disney Genie
Built right into our existing mobile apps, Disney Genie is a complementary, new digital service built to help you create your best Disney day. Disney Genie is your “expert” in itinerary planning design to make personalized recommendations for you- helping to save time.
Do you love princesses? Storm Troopers? Turkey Legs? All of the above? Disney Genie will help create your ideal Disney day while keeping your preferences in mind. Your Itinerary will update continually as the day progresses so you can better go with the flow. One of the new features of the service is that Disney Genie can help you predict when you might experience quicker access to attractions so you can spend less time waiting in line. (And totally not so they can control crowds in the park- Wink Wink)
The service also allows you to check-in right from your phone for dining reservations, restaurant waitlists, and mobile food ordering. Have a question? You can get help from a virtual assistant from anywhere in the parks on the app as well.
Now moving onto Disney Genie+…
I compare this to an upgraded version of the Maxpass at Disneyland. For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, Genie+ allows you to choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. (Old FastPass entrance) From classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability), You can make one selection at a time, throughout the day. Genie + will schedule you for the first available time.
If you would prefer to schedule a specific time to ride an attraction instead, you can also purchase Individual attraction selections. Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park. These are subjected to limited availability and these attractions are not included with Disney Genie+.
Genie+ and Lightning Lane selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, great for those who love the Park Hopper option. Disney has confirmed to travel agents that guests will be able to purchase the Genie+ service beginning at midnight on the day they visit a Walt Disney World theme park. That being said, reservations to use the Lightning Lane for specific attractions will begin at 7 AM the same day. Purchasing Genie+ early has no bearing on attraction availability. It’s unclear if the same policy will apply at the Disneyland Resort., Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility.
Also part of Disney genie plus allows you to enjoy audio experiences tailored to specific locations throughout our magical lands. Capture memories in new ways with Disney Photopass, with unlimited downloads from the day you’re visiting Disneyland Resort, or innovative new augmented reality photo lenses if you’re visiting Disney World Resort.
