And with its warm tropical climate, you can plan to travel to Costa Rica any time of the year and enjoy this slice of paradise.

To connect with the Earth is natural for us, but with our busy suburban/city lives we may not always have the opportunity to do so. I have mapped out a plan so you have one less thing to worry about. So take a break from the busy and relax knowing your family will have the dream vacation they’ll never forget about.
Day One – Arrive in San Jose
Tour of city/ chocolate tasting / Museo Nacional butterfly enclosure
On your first day of your trip, you’ll want to do something easy going. After you check in and drop off your bags and you’re ready to sight-see, take a tour of the beautiful city of San Jose. La Fortuna offers a chocolate tasting tour, guaranteed to bring joy to all. See where the cocoa is grown on the farm and produced. We are all about immersive, hands-on, educational experiences here. Your children will gain insight on the history and culture, all while enjoying the tasty chocolate. After you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth, head over to the Museo Nacional and experience the butterfly enclosure.
Day two – La Paz Waterfall on the way to La Fortuna
According to their website, La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park is the #1 Most Visited, Privately-Owned, Ecological Attraction in Costa Rica featuring the Most Famous Waterfalls in Costa Rica. You can’t swim at the waterfalls, so wear your hiking shoes, but plan to get wet, as it is a rain forest. They recommend allotting two hours minimum to see everything they have to offer. Besides hiking through the park to see waterfalls, they also have an array of beautiful animals in enclosures for your children to see such as jungle cats, sloths, monkeys, hummingbirds, frogs, and more!
Day Three – Zipline and Rafting
Expect a fun-filled, action-packed, adventurous day on this La Fortuna tour. The zipline canopy tour contains aerial platforms and hanging bridges and challenge the Class II and III rapids of the Balsa River. Experience the best of La Fortuna adventure in a single day. Hotel pick-up and drop-off included, as well as lunch, beverages, and snacks. Enjoy the thrill of adventure and take comfort in knowing your safety is guaranteed.
Day Four – Hot springs & Horseback Riding
After a day of adventure, enjoy your day in the serene hot springs of mineral water pools, which are heated by the Arenal volcano. Then giddy up over to a horseback riding tour. You’ll be briefed on safety procedures prior to the tour, where you’ll be shown proper use of equipment. Then, expect to spend about 3 hours of horseback riding through scenic landscapes, encompassing the beautiful plants and animals of the rain forest as you make your way to the Arenal volcano river canyon. You will have a chance to swim in the river. The best part about traveling with your family is exposing them to other cultures so they can grow into well-rounded adults who are culturally in tune with the world. Concluding the tour, you will visit an indigenous cultural rescue center, where you will learn about Maleku culture at Maleku Villa. This includes trying cultural dishes and learning their rituals and dances. You will then head back to get dropped off at your hotel.
Day Five – Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall, and Arenal Volcano Hike
On day five, you’ll enjoy an all-inclusive tour, that combines three adventure-packed activities: A visit to the Hanging Bridges, exploration of La Fortuna Waterfall, and a hike to Arenal Volcano. Your whole day is planned with this tour, taking the pressure off of you to come up with activities. Enjoy the natural wonders of Costa Rica’s scenic route, through hiking around the Arenal Volcano, swimming beneath La Fortuna waterfall, and crossing 16 hanging bridges through the rainforest. Hotel pickup and drop-off included.
Day Six- Transfer to Guanacaste – Relax on the beach – sunset catamaran snorkel
You’ll start your tour at Flamingo Marina, where you’ll set sail and navigate about 5 miles to some of Costa Rica’s most breathtaking private beaches and snorkeling locations. You will see a variety of marine life including dolphins, sea turtles, whales and more. You can even go fishing on the boat at designated points. You will be brought to a relaxing bay where you can snorkel and explore the isolated, beautiful white sand beach, while the chef prepares your lunch on board.
Day Seven – Surf Lessons, ATV Beach Tour
Hang ten! Playa Hermosa offers surf lesson and an ATV beach tour in a combination tour, where you can explore the sights of the forests and beaches of Costa Rica. You’ll get to drive an ATV along three beautiful beaches and then make your way to take surf lessons at Playa Tamarindo or Grande for a surf lesson for beginner and intermediate surfers. The beaches on this tour are inaccessible by car, so enjoy this special, private experience, restricted only for guests on tours.
