We have been living in a time of uncertainty. Uncertainty about when this will end, when it will be safe to travel again. There is one thing that is certain is once it is safe to get out of my house I will be going somewhere… anywhere. Typically, I avoid traveling in the summer choosing to forgo summer crowds for a relaxing weekend in the New Hampshire White Mountains. But this summer I am DYING to go somewhere new. With so many borders closed and 2 week quarantines recommended for international travel it is hard to determine when that will be a possibility again. But there are so many wonderful places right here in the US. I have put together some ideas for some fun vacations for families.

WASHINGTON, DC
What better way to kick off a list about great places to visit in our country than our capital. I love family vacations to Washington, mixing a dash of history with plenty of kid-friendly attractions and tours. Hop-on, hop-off bus tours are a flexible way to take in D.C. highlights at your family’s pace. All the Smithsonian Museums are free to visit, so you can visit without having to worry if you got your money’s worth if you have to leave due a meltdown. The great food scene makes it fun for mom and dad as well!

Boston, MA
One of America’s most historic places (and my hometown) Boston boasts classic experiences for everyone to enjoy. Catch the Red Sox at Fenway Park, cruise Boston Harbor aboard the USS Constitution, then head to Boston Public Garden for a ride on the iconic Swan Boats. The city overflows with history, and there are plenty of kid-friendly attractions that can introduce youngsters to America’s revolutionary past. They can even get in on the action by tossing bales of tea into Boston Harbor at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.

Williamsburg, VA
Another destination rich with American history and heritage, Williamsburg is also packed with kid-friendly attractions that help the past come alive. Family vacation ideas don’t stop with the past, though, since Williamsburg has two exciting theme parks, from Busch Gardens’ rides to slides, pools, and lazy rivers at Water Country USA.

SAN DIEGO, CA
San Diego is a perfect first vacation for any family it is packed with kid-friendly experiences and fun places to go with kids. The San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld San Diego and Legoland are great places to visit with kids of all ages. Especially if you have a budding wildlife biologists or lego aficionado. Not to mention the great beaches for a little relaxation.

Another great beach vacation is Hilton Head, South Carolina. From children’s camps, junior golf academies, and interactive museums to eco-adventures, arts and culture workshops, and days spent on some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, there’s always something new to do for each and every member of your family. Enjoy beach favorites like mini-golf and fireworks. Or head to nearby Charleston or Savannah for some history and REALLY good food.

I was sent to Jackson Hole, WY on a business trip. I was not looking forward to visiting what being raised in the Northeast I considered a flyover state. I landed and immediately fell in love with the town and want everyone I know to visit this miraculous place. From outdoor adventures, to enriching cultural events, it is a wonderful place to spend time with your loved ones in the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Wildlife safaris, ziplines, horseback riding and meeting real life cowboys is so much fun for the whole family.

Boasting the World’s Largest Toy Museum, it’s no surprise that Branson is a favorite for kid-friendly vacations, but the children’s attractions go way beyond Lincoln Logs and toy trains. Of course there’s the beautiful River Walk and we all “Remember the Alamo”, but there are also plenty of engaging museums, parks, zoo, and more. The Witte Museum is my favorite focusing on natural history, science and South Texas heritage. SeaWorld is also a great option for a fun learning experience.

With surfing, scenery and a laid-back pace, Hawaii is the ultimate family destination in the US. I love Oahu for the incredible family accommodations and activities. The Polyneisan Cultural Center in Oahu is a wonderful way for kids to learn about the Polynesian culture, visit out Pearl Harbor for US History, and Kualoa Ranch for an adventure. Many resorts offer kids clubs so the kids are entertained while you hit the links, spa or beach.
