Are you thinking about planning a trip to sunny Florida for a vacation at Disney World? Disney has so much to offer that it can be hard to figure out which parks you want to visit during your stay.
If you want a break from the hot sun and are looking for a way to cool down, a visit to one of the water parks may be the perfect solution! Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is home to two outdoor water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
After reading this, you’ll be more than ready to plan a day at one of these two parks and create amazing memories with your family!
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is located close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and is themed after a melted ski resort. In true Disney form, the theme is consistent throughout the park, from the names of rides to the holiday music playing.
Typhoon Lagoon is located close to Disney Springs. The theme of Typhoon Lagoon illustrates the backstory of a tropical paradise that endured a typhoon. So you’ll see “washed up” surfboards, ships, fishing gear, and other cargo for that effect of a post-tropical storm.
According to Disney’s website, Typhoon Lagoon is currently closed for refurbishment for the rest of the 2024 winter season.
There is complimentary parking for guests visiting either of the water parks.
I recommend using the Car Locator, a feature in the My Disney Experience mobile app. It uses Location Services to find and save your parking details.
This will make your life so much easier! You can order ahead at select dining locations with mobile order service to save time.
You’ll be able to do this through the My Disney Experience app, which you should download before you arrive to the park, so you can start using the service right away.
(Thank me later!)
Towels and lockers are available for rent at Blizzard Beach in the Beach Haus and at Snowless Joe’s, and at Typhoon Lagoon at Singapore Sal’s and High ‘N Dry Rentals.
These are complimentary about both parks. You can find them available throughout the park at Typhoon Lagoon, and at Blizzard Beach at Frostbite Freddy’s Frozen Freshments.
The great thing about Disney is that if you forget to pack anything, there are gift shops where sunscreen, towels, and other necessities are available.

Disney’s water parks have delicious dining options throughout the property, as well as ice cream, and fun frozen cocktails for the adults.
At Blizzard Beach you can enhance your experience with a shaded deck, aka “Polar Patios”. And at Typhoon Lagoon you can upgrade to the equivalent, which is the “Beachcomber Shack”.
Paying a bit extra for your own designated shaded area can be ideal for big parties, or if you need to take a break from all the excitement.
And while coolers are permitted in the park, ice, glass, and alcohol are not allowed to be brought in. Reusable ice packs are allowed.
The rides at these parks vary from intense thrill-seeking for older kids, teens, and adults to toddler-appropriate and young children water play areas that the little ones will love.
You should definitely consider a trip to any of Disney’s water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and/or Blizzard Beach, for a fun, sunny vacation the whole family will enjoy!
