Some of my most treasured memories are of the trips I have taken with my Mom. I have three brothers so getting one on one girl time was always special. My Mom went out of her way to make sure we had that quality time together. When I had my first child and learned it was a girl, it wasn’t long before I started dreaming about the trips we would take together.
Walt Disney World
I love visiting Walt Disney World with my whole family and I love that it has something for everyone. I am really looking forward to a Disney Princesses only trip that I am planning for Annabelle’s 3rd birthday. We are going to stay at the Grand Floridian, visit the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and go to every single princess character meal. New York City
Some of my favorite time spent with my Mom was going into the city for the Broadway In Boston series, so for Annabelle’s 4th birthday (I am a planner, I plan ahead ok?) I am planning a trip to see her first show in New York City. I am also looking forward to picking out her first American Girl Doll at the flagship store while enjoying afternoon tea. A picnic in Central park and a few museum visits based on what she is interested in at the time will also be included in the itinerary.
London
One of my favorite cultural destinations is London. So many childhood favorites originated here including Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins. Swan boats in Hyde Park, High Tea, shopping at Harrods and a West End Show will make this trip memorable. If you have a Jane Austen fan consider pairing a short trip to Bath.
Washington, D.C.
While I am definitely planning trips to our nation’s capital with the whole family. As Annabelle gets a little older I want to plan a special trip to visit some of the incredible national museums that feature the accomplishments of incredible women. Top of the list is the National Museum of Women in the Arts which brings recognition to female artists, offering a broad picture of women’s roles within creative history.
Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland is home to more than just the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. It also has some incredible museums featuring amazing women. The first is International Women’s Air and Space Museum, where you will see exhibits with firsthand accounts of what it was like to be a WASP (Woman Air Force Service Pilot) during WWII to the remarkable, but little-known story of the Mercury 13, the fearless group of females we came to know in Hidden Figures. Nearby in Canton, at the National First Ladies Library, you can soak up some political history while learning about the notable causes, fashion and views created and adopted by leading first ladies.
Prince Edward Island
One of my favorite books as a young girl was Anne of Green Gables and ever since I watched the Canadian mini-series starring Megan Follows I have wanted to visit the picturesque island. I can not wait to read the series with my daughter and then go for a visit and enjoy the many farms boasting horseback riding, vineyards, farm to table restaurants and of course, local mussels.
Charleston, SC
Annabelle’s very first trip when she was 4 months old was to Savannah, GA. Even then she enjoyed the sightseeing trolley and trying new restaurants so I know she would love a trip to nearby Charleston. I can not wait to share the history and culture of this quaint city. I know she would love staying in the pink Mills House, the iconic hotel near the city’s many attractions. Brunch, art galleries, create your own workshops and carriage rides will round out our activities.
Local Wellness Weekend
One of the other things I loved doing with my Mom when I was young was going to get our nails done together. When I was a preteen it gave us time to talk away from my rambunctious brothers. I still enjoy spa getaways with my Mom and can not wait until Annabelle is old enough to join us. We love Mirbeau Inn and Spa in Plymouth, MA (there are also locations in upstate New York.) It is about an hour away giving us just enough of the feeling of getting away, they have beautifully appointed rooms, a relaxing spa and award winning restaurants. There are some incredible spa retreats all around the country so find one that is close to you, relax and enjoy.
