Oahu Itinerary
Parents dream of Hawaii but don’t think it is a destination with kids. Oahu is one of the most family-friendly destinations in the world. There is so much to do you could go every year and do something different every single time.
Why Oahu with kids?
There are SO many fun things to do for just about everyone in your family. In addition to the beach and cuisine that Hawaii is famous for, Oahu also has some amazing history, attractions, and entertainment. Plus, they have some amazing resort options that the whole family will love.
What about Maui or the other islands?
Oahu has more attractions for an active family. If you are just looking to relax then Maui is a great destination. The other islands are beautiful as well, but they can be more suitable for a couple’s getaway or for singles rather than a family.
Places to stay
I love Ko Olina Resort. Some other great family options are the Four Seasons, Aulani, and Marriott Beach Club – about an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki but close enough to be able to enjoy the activities.

Day One – Arrive & enjoy your resort
I learned the hard way, never plan anything for your arrival day. I know you are excited and ready to see the sites but after a long day of travel, your kids may not be as ready to roll. There is also the possibility of air delays, long car rental lines and traffic so just take it easy today. Check into your resort, put your bathing suits on and hit the pool or beach.
Day Two – Diamond Head Hike & Waikiki
Take advantage of your jet land and start your morning early with an easy hike up Diamond Head. Lots of things to do on the 2 miles stretch of Waikiki Beach. Just have a beach day, paddleboard, kayak etc or check out the Zoo & Aquarium. Go shopping on the Waikiki Beach Walk and enjoy storefronts, galleries, and restaurants.
Day Three – Family Beach Time & Luau
Spend your day at the top-rated beach in Oahu called Lanikai Beach. This beautiful beach is perfect for kids because the waters are gentle. This is the type of beach that you see in movies with its clear water and fine sand. There is plenty to do here as they offer water sports such as kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, and snorkeling. After spending the day at the beach, book a dinner & luau show. This is a cultural event you and your family will most likely enjoy.
Day Four – Kualoa Ranch & Polynesian Cultural Center
Enjoy your first half of the day at Kualoa Ranch which is a private nature reserve that offers various tours and activities. The 2 hour UTV Raptor Tour allows you and your family to explore the rainforest and “Jurassic Valley” on UTVS. This is a one-of-a-kind experience you will not forget. At night, head to the Polynesian Cultural Center to watch an evening show where they tell a story through Polynesian dance, music, and fire knives. The Polynesian Cultural Center offers many activities and shows so be sure to check out their website.

Day Five – Dole Plantation & Snorkeling at Turtle Beach
Take a Plantation Garden Tour at Dole Plantation where you can learn all about the fruit, coffee, and cacao that they grow in Oahu. You and your little ones can test out how long it will take you to get out of the Pineapple Garden Maze they have located on the plantation. Enjoy some lunch at the Plantation Grille. Then head over to Turtle Beach where you can enjoy snorkeling and see the turtles that hang out near the shore!
Day Six- Pearl Harbor & Bishop Museum & Dinner in Waikiki
If anyone in your family loves history, this is the perfect day for them. First, your family can visit Pearl Harbor where you can learn about and honor those who had fallen in the Pearl Harbor Attacks. Spend the afternoon in the Bishop Museum where you can learn historical and scientific facts about Hawaii and the Pacific. End the day by enjoying a nice meal in Waikiki.
Day Seven – Kids Clubs and Spa Time
The day before you end a trip, you want to relax a bit and make sure there is enough time to pack. Drop your children off at the Kids Club so that they can enjoy time with other kids their age while you get to enjoy the spa. This is such a good way to unwind before the day of travel you have ahead of you. Enjoy a nice dinner as well to top off the last night in Oahu.
Day Eight – Leave
