They really did a great job transforming a large cavernous fine dining restaurant into a cozy woodland. The grand lobby of the Wilderness Lodge is such a great welcome, especially during the holidays with the massive Christmas tree. The check in and waiting area are a kind of nondescript area of the lobby and it is so popular it is often crowded and awkward.
Added tree limbs and leaves into the already American Northwest themed dining room. The themed plating also adds to the ambiance.
Most character meals you are paying for experience and NOT high quality food. Not the case here. This is not a buffet but a pre-fixe menu.
Start with creative themed cocktails. If you have been following me for any length of time you know I love a commitment to a theme. I have to go with the Enchanted Apple, it is kind of like a cosmos with the Skyy Citrus Vodka, DeKuyper Pucker Sour Apple and White Cranberry Juice. But all three of my brothers loved The Smoking Mirror. It comes with an upside down glass with billowing smoke that makes a dramatic introduction to the cocktail of Johnnie Walker Black, Wildberry, Lime and Rosemary Smoke.
A three tiered display comes with shared appetizers. Winter Squash Bisque (my favorite) , Hunter’s Pie, Wicked Shrimp Cocktail served in a small mason jar – my husband’s favorite.
The first time I had the Prime Rib which I loved. The Pork Shank was a favorite at our table with over half of the 10 people ordering it. The fish and chicken were great when compared to other character meals but compared to the meat dishes on the menu lacked flavor and creativity. But my Mom was very happy that they had a lighter fish option. The second time I got the beef stroganoff because I had just gotten back from Germany and had been craving spätzle. I wished I had gotten the Prime Rib or Pork Shank.
After enjoying their individual entrees, Guests then again share family-style desserts that continue the whimsical names and delicious flavors. Everything is very cute and themed but the flavor suffers a bit – but by then you are so full you don’t care.
Great Service.
Best character dinner in terms of food. Amazing Character Interaction – spent plenty of time with her. One of my favorite memories from her first trip is “booping” Snow White. Most times you only see each character once but Snow kept coming back to play with Annabelle. During our socially distanced visit we still had a wonderful time but did feel like the characters were a little more rushed than at Topolino’s. I guess we will have to go back again!
